On October 27th, 2013, the 45thAsia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) Conference achieved a successful ending with the closing ceremony in the School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University.

The theme of this year’s conference is “global health”, and 25 sub-themes have been discussed. About 600 scholars and experts from more than 30 countries and regions gathered in Wuhan, Hubei province, to discuss the latest development in all major areas of global health at the 45th Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health Conference. The Organizing Committee received 1300 abstracts in total from more than 30 countries since the call for abstracts has been sent out. 25 experts in related academic fields peer-reviewed the received abstracts and selected 195 abstracts for oral presentation, 317 for poster presentation. There were total 564 participants from 17 countries, counted by the opening ceremony. Among these participants, 326 are international participants, and 238 are national delegates. Besides, more than 100 faculties and students from Wuhan University also attended the conference.

The conference invited 5 experts with great academic contribution and high prestige in the public health field to deliver keynote speeches. They are Mary Bullock (the vice president of Duke Kunshan University), Liming Li, Joseph Sung (president of Chinese Hong Kong University), Ren Minghui, Lincoln Chen (the president of CMB). Their excellent keynote speeches have generated a huge response.

Lasting from Oct 24 to 27, the event shows the nation’s growing contribution to the cause of global health. the newly discovered diseases and infections have threatened many people’s lives, and the imbalanced development in different countries and regions has become a barrier to global health. So China is now actively participating in the global events and trying to benefit more people.

China’s research on global health is still at an early stage. It is still seeking cooperation with professionals and institutes to make further developments in this domain. China needs to build a more comprehensive system and strategy with regard to global health.

This year’s conference will have a positive impact on our global health research by offering us a precious opportunity to communicate with experts from all over the world.
